The Hirschgäslein project showcases intelligent energy management and comfort optimization through automated control of blinds, HVAC, and lighting. Using KNX, Modbus, and Ksenia systems integrated via ComfortClick’s Jigsaw Pro server, the installation ensures comfort, compliance, and significant energy savings in line with Swiss AUE and AWA regulations.

Project Description:

Developed by Ramseyer Elektro AG, the Hirschgäslein project was designed to increase energy efficiency and comfort while meeting Basel’s strict environmental standards.

The decentralized setup uses KNX for blinds, Modbus for HVAC, and Ksenia for window management all coordinated through ComfortClick bOS.

According to Basel regulations, buildings with air conditioning units above 20 kW must block solar radiation while the HVAC is running. ComfortClick handles this logic automatically: when solar radiation exceeds 200 W/m², blinds are lowered and locked. The system also enforces rules allowing HVAC operation only when outdoor temperature ≥ 24 °C, indoor ≥ 26 °C, and windows remain closed.

The office features 21 presence sensors monitoring both temperature and occupancy. If no movement is detected for 20 minutes, the HVAC system shuts down to save energy. On the visualization side, a 3D supervision interface built in ComfortClick bOS displays the building layout and blinds in realistic perspective, providing intuitive, real-time control.

This project demonstrates how advanced logic and visualization can turn regulatory requirements into an elegant, sustainable automation solution.
