Castellet Bruk Project in Karlshamn, Sweden

Commercial
Project main image

Castellet Bruk is a large-scale industrial automation project that demonstrates how KNX and ComfortClick can manage complex, multi-tenant operations within a single, intelligent platform. Powered by ComfortClick bOS, the system centralizes control of lighting, HVAC, ventilation, energy, and monitoring across a 20,000 m² facility.

Technology Used:

  1. KNX for lighting, HVAC, and process control
  2. DALI via KNX for dimmable lighting
  3. Modbus TCP for ventilation and process systems
  4. M-Bus and pulse inputs for energy metering
  5. HTTP API for sea level and seawater temperature monitoring (SMHI)
  6. IP cameras integrated into ComfortClick for process monitoring

Project Description:

Developed by Castellet Bruk i Blekinge AB, this long-term project transformed a historic industrial property into a modern, automated hub serving 15 different tenants from food production and laboratories to offices and wellness facilities.

Originally built for food processing, the building now spans seven floors and 20,000 m² of rentable space. Tenants such as Tetra Pak, AAK, and The Green Dairy rely on the site’s shared infrastructure for ventilation, steam, chilled water, and process air all of which are monitored and controlled through ComfortClick bOS.

The system began in 2015 with a CO₂-based control setup for two fans and gradually expanded to include complete building management and energy monitoring. Today, it integrates 462 KNX devices across 16 IP routers, providing a stable Ethernet-based backbone that communicates directly with ComfortClick for real-time visualization and control.

In the latest expansion, lighting is managed through DALI and KNX, while ventilation units are connected using Modbus TCP. Older pneumatic systems from the 1970s were replaced with 0–10V electronic controls, bringing them under KNX management. ComfortClick’s bOS handles visualization for all connected systems, 3,483 data nodes and growing daily offering intuitive dashboards, alarms, and automated data reports.

The system also extends to environmental monitoring, integrating the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) API to track sea level and seawater temperature, along with IP camera feeds for visual supervision of key processes and areas.

By combining multiple communication standards KNX, DALI, Modbus, M-Bus, BACnet, and HTTP APIs into one cohesive visualization, the project demonstrates the true scalability and interoperability of ComfortClick in complex industrial environments.

Castellet Bruk is more than a smart building, it’s a continuously evolving ecosystem that manages thousands of data points daily, reducing energy use, improving comfort, and providing a powerful management tool for both tenants and the property owner.
